The Calvary Echoes was formed in 2001 in Somerset, Ky. The members was from a previous group that had been together for several years. When that group decided to retire, not long came the idea to reform and launch out again doing what they enjoyed doing, traveling and seeing souls saved. Singer Larry Sams had received a call from Pastor Lonnie Smith in Tennessee for an appointment to come and sing. At that time the only thing Larry had to go with was a few soundtracks and a small portable cd player. So Larry had the idea to call some of the previous members to see if they would go help him with the service. They got together to practice briefly and took off to do the best they could in such a short notice. When they walked on to the pulpit to sing, right then they knew something was in the works for a new group to be formed. What a service that took place that night! When the church service came to a close they packed up what little equipment they owned and other equipment that belonged to their friend Larry Lovins and came back to Somerset. Since they traveled in different cars, on the way back Eddie & Jan conversed back & forth on walkie-talkies saying what a time they had. Different ones were in each others cars and heard all the conversations and agreed something was in the makings here. The group started practicing and getting better prepared for the journey they were headed on. Before you know it they started having phone calls from all over the Kentucky,Tennessee and Indiana area asking The Calvary Echoes to come and sing for them. Everything was going great for the members and then one day member Don Stewart had received a call from his doctor and they had found a spot on his lung. Since cancer ran in Dons family naturally he was very worried. A short time later The Calvary Echoes went to a church to sing in Tennessee called Macedonia Christian Center and Ron Duncan was the pastor. Now this church believes in the healing power of Jesus Christ and when Don Stewart was singing So much to thank him for the pastor started praying for Don and right then don said he knew that spot on the lung was GONE! What a time we had that night. After that service Don went back to the doctor that week and the doctor couldn't believe it, it was gone! God had preformed a miracle that night in Dons life. During the course of the group traveling to many places, they seen may souls saved and others healed as Don was healed. On September 2001 a tragic thing happened to America and Larry Sams was inspired to write a song in remembrance of the ones that lost their lives on 911, which was called Remember. Thanks to many radio stations that song was played for some time and wherever The Calvary Echoes went they were asked to sing that song. Along with Larry Sams, Eddie Brumley had written several songs also which the group performed while they were together. I think its great when the Lord places people together as a group to sing but its a blessing when he places such great friends together to make up a group called The Calvary Echoes to work together singing for the Lord. One thing that needs to be added, we'd like to thank our wives for being by ourside with their support and also helping us carry the equipment and maintaining our product table.
Now as most groups in time, some retires or goes in different directions for the Lord. In 2005 the remaining members decided the time had came for them to retire, so in fall 2005 The Calvary Echoes performed their last appointment together. Since them they all stay in close contact together. They all still attend church and sometimes may do a special song in their church.
We hope you've enjoyed reading the history about The Calvary Echoes and feel free to listen to their songs on the cd pages. If you don't mind, sign our guestbook before you leave. We ask that you keep each one of us in your prayers that we'll always do what God wants us to do and we'll keep you in ours.It has been some really great years being together playing & singing for the Lord.
God Bless you all, Larry Sams, Jan Baker, Don Stewart, Eddie Brumley, Mike Baker, Steve Stewart and all our wives.
